What is a “herd share”?
Our herd share program gives you access to fresh, raw milk from our Jersey cows here at Towering Oaks Farm.
North Carolina law does not allow us to sell raw milk for human consumption. Instead, when you purchase a herd share, you become a part owner of our herd of jersey cows — Bossy, Flossy, Daisy Mae, Bramble, Gingersnap, and Peanut.
As a part owner, you have access to the milk your cows produce.
It’s a simple way to know where your milk comes from, who cares for the cows, and who is handling your family’s food.
How does it work?
You’ll make a one-time purchase to become a part owner of the herd. After that, you’ll pay a monthly boarding fee that covers the cost of feeding, milking, and caring for your portion of the cows.
And in return? You get the best part of owning a dairy cow — fresh, delicious milk!
Your milk is bottled in half-gallon glass jars with leakproof plastic lids and is available for pickup directly from the farm. You’re always welcome to say hello to the ladies who make it!
We regularly test our milk and take care to keep it clean and cold from the time it leaves the cow until you pick it up. After milking, we strain the milk directly into our chilling tank, then bottle it in glass jars and refrigerate it until pickup.
